The course is presented via face to face teaching, demonstration and practical exercises. Learners experience a simulated work places environment, with access to equipment, products and facilities reflecting industry practice. Out of college experience is available, but is not assessed as part of the course.

Entry Pathway – To Qualify for the CUA60620 Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media Candidates must have successfully completed of  CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media (or equivalent)

Due to the specialized nature and popularity of the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media, ACMUSE gives priority to its own Diploma Graduates before considering external applicants.

All applicants who have completed their Diploma of Screen and Media externally to ACMUSE will be required to undergo an interview process with the ACMUSE principal. During this interview you will display a portfolio of work that meets the course entry requirements.

ACMUSE recognises that everyone has different skills and experiences, so what we look for is potential through a body of creative work. This will shows conceptual, technical, self-motivation and organisational skills through to realisation and presentation. Further to your portfolio of work in areas of make-up design, we require evidence of the creative process showing a strong sense of colour, shape and form.

The ACMUSE Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media can only accept a maximum of 10 students per enrolment period. 

If the principal feels that ACMUSE is not the right fit for you, you will be informed immediately.

1. Prosthetic Makeup: Students will acquire the skills to create complete prosthetic Makeup applications in a variety of materials: including Silicone, Foam latex and Prosaide Transfers.
2. Sculpture: Students will learn how to sculpt an prosthetic Makeup
3. Professional Portfolio Development: By the end of the course, students will have developed a professional makeup portfolio showcasing their diverse range of skills and creative abilities.
4. Bald Cap Application: Students will learn how to construct and apply bald caps flawlessly, enabling them to transform actors into bald characters or create unique makeup looks.
5. Colour Theory and Makeup Artistry: Students will comprehend colour theory principles and effectively apply them to achieve a range of character and Special effects Makeup applications
6. Production Communication and Collaboration: Learners will develop strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to understand the needs of a production and work collaboratively with other professionals in the industry.
7. Hygiene and Safety Practices: Students will be trained in maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in makeup application, ensuring the well-being of their clients and themselves.
8. Professional Ethics and Industry Awareness: Students will be educated on the ethical considerations within the makeup industry, promoting responsible and respectful conduct throughout their careers.
9. Time Management and Efficiency: Learners will develop strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines during various makeup assignments.

Ongoing assessment based on training package assessment criteria. There are three clustered assessment points: one is term one, a block assessment in term 2 and a final assessment at the end of the year – practical and theoretical examination.

Visual Diary – self-directed study

It is expected that on average each learner complete a designated 8-10 hours/week of additional self-directed study. Part of this is compiling a Visual diary. A visual diary is a daily journal kept by artists, often containing both words and sketches. A diary not only give your trainer a valuable opportunity to explore the creation process of these finished works, but is a useful self-reflection tool.
