This course covers all areas of the Makeup industry, from bridal, fashion, prosthetics and special effects, as well as hair and wig styling and period hair and Makeup Students are guided by industry professional trainers dedicated to helping them reach their goals.

Delivery
The course is presented via face to face teaching, demonstration and practical exercises. Learners experience a simulated work places environment, with access to equipment, products and facilities reflecting industry practice. Out of college experience is available, but is not assessed as part of the course.

Entrance requirements
ACMUSE accepts students who are 16 and have completed year 10, there is no maximum age limit.
Students are not required to have an ATAR to attend ACMUSE.
Students who have not completed year 12 will need to complete an LLN test provided by the college prior to commencement. This tool is used to identify any supports a student might require.

At ACMUSE we believe that you will learn the content within your Diploma and as a result we do not require you to have any prior Makeup knowledge to enrol in the Diploma of Screen and Media. Our trainers are highly skilled and can train you the best industry practice in this course.
You are not required to supply any images of previous works (unless you would like to) or audition for a position.
However ACMUSE can only accept a maximum of 25 students in the course per enrolment period. If the principal feels that ACMUSE is not the right fit for you, you will be informed immediately. If ACMUSE does not have a position available you will be put on a wait list for the next available course.

Assesment
Ongoing assessment based on training package assessment criteria. There are three clustered assessment points: one is week one, a mid year assessment in week 20 and a final assessment at the end of the year – practical and theoretical examination.
All practical Assessments are photographed in the ACMUSE photo studio to add to your portfolio.

Content
Health and Hygiene
One of the most important parts of being a Makeup Artist. During the Diploma of Screen and Media you will go into depth learning correct Health and hygiene practices within the professional Makeup Industry. From proper brush washing and steralizing techniques to client care. At ACMUSE Health and Hygiene begins on Day 1 and continues throughout the entirety of your Diploma.
Facial Sculpting and Corrective Makeup
Learn to correct various types of pigmentation using colour theory and up to date product knowledge. You will learn the skills to enhance a clients best features using your knowledge of the different face shapes and contour techniques.
Eyes and Lips
Learn to create beautiful eye designs, using a variety of techniques. These include; eye shapes, eye contouring, Natural eyes, Smokey eyes, Graphic Liners, False Eyelash applications, Eyebrow blocking, eyebrow grooming, corrective eyebrow techniques.
Then it’s onto lips, first looking at creating an even lip shape and then working with a range of lip products, including pencils, glosses and lip colours.
Colour Theory
At ACMUSE we dedicate the time to explore the relationships between colour, lighting and Makeup. Taking you through the basics before moving onto more advanced colour theory principals. At ACMUSE we go beyond using primary colours to mix foundation bases, and explore the important relationship between colour and lighting.
Hair Styling
Hair styling is taught at three seperate intervals at ACMUSE. Hair classes start at the beginner level where you will learn the basics of; Blow drying, Roller sets, Hair tongs and simple up-styles incorporating braids and Pony Tails. Then you will progress to more Advanced techniques, exploring Historical hair styles from the 1920’s – 1970’s. You will learn the traditional techniques before learning how to create styles utilising modern technology used in the Industry today.
Wigs
Wigs are an important skill for any Makeup and hair artist and are widely utilised in every area of the professional Industry. At ACMUSE you will learn all you need to know about wigs, from exploring different hair fibres, to proper wig blocking and washing techniques. In addition you will be taught how to cut, style and apply you own wig. Throughout the course you will have multiple opportunities to use wigs and hair pieces in your Makeup designs using wigs from the ACMUSE wig stand.
Bridal Makeup – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
You will get to explore the world of Bridal Makeup for your very first photoshoot with ACMUSE. This shoot is the first of many and you will learn how to create a Bridal hair and Makeup look following the latest trends in Bridal makeup. Your trainer will guide you in your design as you prepare your model in full costume ready to shoot.
Black and White Photography Makeup – x2 Photoshoots in the ACMUSE studio
Discover the importance of tonal values and the appearance of Makeup in Black and White photography. During this topic you will participate in two photoshoots to help you understand how to design Makeup in Black and White.
Glamour – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
Get your client Red Carpet ready and learn how to create a glamour look that will last the entire Logies. Understand the relationship between Hair, Makeup and wardrobe in creating a beautiful red carpet look. This is your week to take your makeup skills to the next level and create a dynamic look ready to shoot in the ACMUSE photo studio.
Fashion Makeup- x3 Photoshoots in the ACMUSE studio
At ACMUSE fashion makeup is explored during three seperate blocks throughout the course. This means that you are able to learn the different topics that sit within the fashion Industry.
We start by delving into the world of editorial and what it means to be an Editorial Makeup artist. This block focuses on creating editorial skin, perfecting brows and creating makeups that’s don’t require photoshop. You will then have the opportunity to design and apply an Editorial Hair and Makeup look ready for your first Fashion photoshoot.
During this time your trainer will guide you through the latest trends and application techniques within the Industry. After Editorial you will design a look ready for Runway, drawing influence from Australian fashion designers. In your second look you will design a runway ready hair and makeup design, using face and hair charts to help visualise your final look. Once complete your model dressed in full costume will be shot in the ACMUSE photo studio.
For our final block we look at influential Makeup Artists who have been influential in AVANT GARDE style makeup. You will then get to design your own High Fashion AVANT GARDE look. The final fashion block is a favourite among most students, providing you an opportunity to get creative and go for it, for a final fashion photoshoot.
Casualty Simulation/ SFX – x2 Photoshoots in the ACMUSE studio
Taught over three blocks Casualty simulation teaches you how to create moulage and out of the kit effects Makeup. At ACMUSE your trainer will guide you as you begin with small cuts, bruises and scratches. You will learn a complete range of techniques including blending, stippling and correct blood placement. During this time you will discover the importance of considering the scenario of an injury and providing adequate research.
In the second block you will learn how to create wounds using scar wax, how to create realistic scabs and you will move into advanced bruising.
Then it’s all about burns, exploring the differences between 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns and how to create them. During burns week you will learn using a host of different products including latex, gelatin and silicone.
Ageing Techniques- Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
During this topic you will learn a variety of techniques that will enable you to create an aged makeup for whatever medium that is required. Starting with theatre ageing techniques you will learn how to create different skin textures and use highlight and shade to create an aged character perfect for the stage in any theatre production. Next you will learn more subtle ageing techniques and skin textures to suit High Definition media like Film and television or photography.
Research and Design
One of the most important tools to any Makeup Artist is understanding the relationship between research and design. At ACMUSE we believe that to create dynamic looks you must first be able to visualise your concept. Research is important for every aspect of Makeup.
At ACMUSE your trainer will guide you to look beyond social media to draw inspiration for your looks. You will learn to create Industry standard makeup charts and methods to communicate your vision, you will become familiar with mood boards and mind maps to unlock your creativity.
Period Makeup – x7 Photoshoots in the ACMUSE studio
Taught over 3 blocks Period Makeup includes every period from the 1920’s – 1980’s. During these three consecutive blocks you will be tasked with creating two looks per week. During each period you will learn a completely different style of makeup, taught with accuracy and respect for the period. During these 3 weeks you will participate in a total of 7 photo shoots in the ACMUSE photo studio.
Drag Makeup- Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
An ACMUSE favourite you will learn to create an iconic Drag makeup look using all of the makeup skills you have been developing over your course. You will be tasked with creating your Drag character and bringing them to life using advanced contouring, advanced eye design techniques, brow blocking, lash and wig application. Your model will then get into costume before we shoot the look in our photo studio.
Character Makeup Effects – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
In the world of Theatre, film and television and advertising, knowing how to create a character is a must have skill. At ACMUSE we teach you the important things to consider with character design and guide you to creating professional character makeups suitable for the stage or screen.
Bald Cap Construction and Application – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
You will be given the tools to help you construct your very own bald caps as your experienced trainer guides you through the steps and different construction methods. Once construction is complete you will be tasked to apply your bald cap and will create a fantasy design to showcase it in you bald cap photoshoot.
Silicone Prosthetics –Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
Following a trainer demonstration you will colour and pour your own silicone flat mould, using the top products from the Australian Industry. You will then colour and apply your prosthetic blending it seamlessly into the skin to complete your realistic effect.
Foam Latex Prosthetic Application – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE studio
Create your very own Enchanted Creature and learn the technical world of foam latex prothetic application. During this block you will tasked to fit and apply seamless foam latex prosthetic pieces to change your models face into creature creation. You will then use various painting and colouring techniques to complete your look. Once complete and in costume your Enchanted creature will be photographed in the ACMUSE photo studio.
Body Painting – Photoshoot in the ACMUSE Studio
You will complete a body painting design on 50% of your model incorporating a variety of body painting techniques including; stippling, stamping, illusions, stenciling, brushing, flick technique and many more to create a dynamic final body paint.
Continuity and Film Appreciation
At ACMUSE we will teach you how to conduct yourself in a professional manner to work on all types of sets. During the course you will learn about film continuity, Shot sizes, Film lighting, On set professionalism, and the business of being a Makeup Artist.
